Whether you are a bricks and mortar store or not, the advent of Google’s Pigeon algorithm has changed the way users are presented with your online store forever.
Google Local and Google Business has more or less replaced Google Authorship and for Prestashop stores that is a big win – Provided you take advantage of it.
Prior to Google Local and Google Business, e-commerce was having a hard time competing with all those authorship blog photo’s and information that cluttered up the first page of Google.
Now, Prestashop users can make real in-roads to Google’s front page – and even dominate it through Google local search. See two examples here.
Optimizing your site for Google Local and Google Business properly requires a little work, but the potential return on investment is worth it.
A recent Google study showed that searches with local intent are more likely to lead to store visits and sales within a day.
The research says that 50 percent of mobile users are most likely to visit after conducting a local search, while 34 percent of consumers on tablets or computers will go to a store.
And Google says these people are ready to buy once they are in a store, as 18 percent of local searches lead to sales, compared to 7 percent for non-local searches.
Have you set up and optimised your Google Business and Google Local Listing for Prestashop? If not, then you are losing potential revenue and you are also ignoring some of the best advertising real estate on the web – advertising space that would normally cost you tens of thousands of dollars.
Google Business Local Can Boost Your Visibility.
Compare the two screen shots below. Both high quality stores, both built on Prestashop.
Johnsonspopcorn.com (above) have nailed it and gotten for themselves prime real estate on the worlds largest website.
Rattan.co.uk (below) has a good website and has even built an active Google Plus Page.
But, as you can see, they are missing some valuable real estate because they have yet to build a Google Local Listing in to their marketing strategy.
Neglecting Google Local Can Leave you Lost at Sea.
The first mention of rattan.co.uk appears in the 8th and 9th position on Google’s first page.
Bright Local also conducted research in to how Google’s Local search fairs alongside Bing and Yahoo. The Key Findings were:
- With generic keywords, Google is more generous to local businesses
- Google gives greater space to Local Results (40%) and Local Business (19%)
- Bing & Yahoo give more space to larger websites (65% & 58% respectively)
Since most Prestashop Stores are small to medium size business, this makes being found in Google Local Search all the more important.
Competition for space on the top of Googles Search Results will only ever increase but right now, there is still plenty of room for your store.
