7 Best Types of Products to Sell on Amazon This Year

7 Best Types of Products to Sell on Amazon This Year

Updated - April 21, 2020 By David Trounce Leave a Comment

What you sell on Amazon dramatically influences the chances of success on the platform. The products you sell are critical to beating the Amazon A9 algorithm and coming up in more user searches, as certain products are much easier to rank than others.

If you’re looking to start your own business selling on Amazon in 2020, here is some advice about the best types of products to sell for various reasons. It is also important, however, to remember that choosing the right products to sell is also a very individual matter.

It is much better to sell products that you have some knowledge of, and most of all, that you are passionate about than to simply choose products because they are more likely to sell.

On the other hand, certain products are much easier to sell on Amazon than others, and trying to sell some kinds of products is extremely challenging.

So your choice should be a balance between products that interest you and that will sell as well as research gleaned from current Amazon statistics regarding productivity and sales.

With that in mind, here are the seven best types of products to sell on Amazon in 2020.

1. Electronics

Electronics is one of the biggest, and more importantly, profitable categories on Amazon.

Our modern lives are centred around technology, and this is only set to increase in the future. Electronics can be high-value items, meaning a greater potential for profit for Amazon sellers.

Additionally, there are always new models and products being released, making a constant demand by consumers for products in this area.

Great items to sell include not only big-ticket electronics like laptops and voice assistants but also all kinds of accessories for popular electronics.

2. Toys and Games

Toys and games are a very popular category on Amazon, largely because these items are frequently purchased.

Some products, like a TV, for example, you will buy once and then (hopefully) won’t need to repurchase one for several years. Toys and games, on the other hand, are purchased by parents for every birthday, holiday, and in between.

This represents great potential for building up repeat business with your customers.

Additionally, there are always new trends, new Disney and Pixar movies and so on coming out, meaning that kids need the latest toy in the range. Often these are not just for kids, with adult collectors being excellent Amazon shoppers!

3. Video Games

Video games have been one of the most profitable categories on Amazon for some time.

The gaming community goes from strength to strength, with gamers playing more often than ever: an average of 7.1 hours per week. This dedication (or addiction, depending on your perspective!) means that they are continuously looking to buy new games.

Video games are not only extremely popular but also a relatively high-cost item that is easy to package and ship, making them ideal Amazon products.

There is also the additional opportunity to promote your video games through Twitch Prime (an exclusive feature for Amazon Prime members).

4. Books

Amazon originally launched as an online book store, and books remain one of the biggest categories on the platform. This is also a great product for sellers, not least because of its flexibility: on Amazon, you can sell books on print, in Kindle form, or both.

Despite the sire predictions of many when the internet started to take over, people still read. Furthermore more, with digital options now available, they read a lot: this represents a large amount of potential revenue for sellers.

5. Cameras

Cameras of all kinds – digital cameras, home security cameras, instant film, baby monitors and more – make great products to sell on Amazon.

Firstly, because consumers will always want cameras to take pictures either professionally or as an amateur.

With the rise of social media and the influencer culture, taking photos is more important to people than ever, and they’re willing to invest in equipment.

Furthermore, cameras for home security and surveillance are becoming increasingly popular.

As technology develops, more people want to use it to keep their home or business safe. As this technology is updated, people will upgrade their systems and buy new products.

6. Activewear

Selling clothing and apparel on Amazon can have mixed results. However, one consistently profitable area of clothing is activewear.

Health and fitness have long been an important pursuit for many people, and they’re willing to invest heavily in apparel and accessories to help them keep fit.

Also, the growing popularity of yoga means a large consumer market for activewear suitable for this activity in particular.

What’s more, yoga fans and fitness buffs typically have a large amount of disposable income to spend on your products.

7. Pet Accessories

Another very popular category with the high disposable income crowd, and therefore a hugely popular area, is pet accessories.

Items for pets, from dog toys and kennels to pet beds, are always near the top of Amazon sales lists.

Additionally, pets are not known for looking after their items, meaning that owners need to replace these products frequently. This, in turn, means more repeat business for you!
